NOW THAT THE year is drawing to a close, we asked our favourite bloggers and MUAs to look back on the products they loved in 2017. Any excuse to chat about beauty, eh?
Dani Duffy (therebellipstick)
Dani is a makeup artist for MAC – her favourite product of the year probably graced a lot of Christmas lists:
My top product of 2017 has to be the Huda Beauty Rose Gold Palette. I mulled over purchasing it for a long time as I knew I didn’t really need it having the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance in my stash, but it has been one of my most reached for palettes of the year whether it’s a subtle or amped up look I’m aiming for.
Yav (makeupmonster.ie)
This year, beauty blogger Yav discovered what lots of women dream of finding for themselves: The perfect foundation.
Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear foundation gives great coverage, and is really long-lasting but still manages to look natural. It’s saved a lot of shocking skin situations in 2017.
Karen Constantine (lovelygirlybits)
Snapchat bridie Karen told us that she tried so many brilliant products this year, she couldn’t pick just one:
I fell in love hard with the L’Occitane Terre de Lumiere perfume when it launched at the start of the year and it’s a scent that’s worked for me all summer, autumn and winter. It’s warm, comforting and a little goes a long way.
Another product I harped on and on about this year was the Note Cosmetics BB Cream. It gives the most beautiful flawless finish to the skin with medium coverage and while the lightest shade is too dark for me, once I self tan, it’s perfection! The fact that it’s €11.95 is the icing on the cake!
Lorraine Haigney (lorraine_haigney)
The lovely Lorraine of John It’s Only Makeup (and its new wedding offshoot, John It’s Only A Wedding) picked the product that should be in all our makeup bags: A good sun cream.
My beauty product of the year is SkinCeuticals Mineral Radiance, a facial sun cream that provides a little bit of glow and coverage. It’s not greasy or claggy, so you can use it under makeup or as a one-and-done complexion booster. Best of all, it’s got an SPF of 50. Nothing says Christmas like proper sun safety.
Gemma Burke (beautynookie)
Gemma of The Beauty Nook is totally in love with one of the year’s most talked-about eyeshadow palettes:
My favourite beauty product of 2017 would have to be the Urban Decay Naked Heat palette. I could probably list ten more things, but I think the Heat palette got my makeup juices flowing the most. It’s a warm eyeshadow lover’s best friend, the shades blend like a dream and you can use it for a super simple look or go all out with it too.
AJ Fitzsimons (ajmakeup)
AJ was featured on the Late Late earlier this year in a segment about lip fillers – but her pick of 2017 is very budget-friendly:
My product of the year would be Wet n Wild Photo Focus foundation – I was blown away by the quality of this product for the price point and I’m always reaching for it over my high end foundations.
Orla McConnon (TheOrlacle)
And Orla has another cheap and cheerful pick, because you can never have too many budget foundation recommendations:
My product of the year is Lov Cosmetics’ LOVtime Long Lasting foundation, and it’s only €12!
And as a sneaky little bonus… here are the products some of the DailyEdge.ie gals loved in 2017:
Fionnuala Jones
The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension! I have never used something before that genuinely transformed my skin, I can’t go without this now. The ZOEVA Cocoa Blend Eyeshadow Palette is one of the smoothest, most pigmented eyeshadow palettes I’ve ever used, and the colours go with everything. It’s replaced my Naked palette.
The Stila Magnificent Metals Eyeshadow in Kitten Karma is basically, the product I’ve wanted all my life. The Vichy Mineral 89 Hyaluronic Acid Moisturiser is just a big drink for the skin! So hydrating without being greasy. And finally, the e.l.f. Liquid Matte lipstick in Tea Rose is universally flattering and v v cheap.
Nicola Byrne
This year was the year I started to take skincare seriously, which is about time in fairness. Goodbye wipes, hello Pixi Double Cleanse. I love all Pixi products and this one is no disappointment, it’s a tad expensive for the amount you get but so justified in my head. There’s one half cleansing balm, with cleansing cream in the other, removed with one of Penneys’ finest cleansing mitts. It genuinely is a pleasure to put on, and makes my skin feel squeaky clean but not dried out. Life changing.
The Ordinary’s Colours serum foundation didn’t let me down, and provides a nice natural day-to-day base with decent coverage. So cheap, too!
Valerie Loftus
This was VERY difficult but I think I’ve finally whittled it down. My favourite skincare discovery of 2017 was the Banila Co Clean It Zero cleansing balm – I’d never used a balm before but wow, does it get makeup off quickly. Very much recommend.
As for makeup, the It Cosmetics CC Cream pretty much changed my life this year. It’s so light and glowy while also covering any shockers. And this is probably cheating since I literally just got it, but the Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint has knocked every other red lipstick I own out of the park. Thank you Rihanna.
